ABOUT MCA

A clearer way to develop as a cricketer

MCA gives ambitious players a structured development experience built around consistent coaching, a clear starting benchmark and progress they can see. The same method guides every MCA program, while coaches adapt the work to the player in front of them.

A standard players and parents can understand

Cricket development can feel difficult to judge. Different coaches may use different language, focus on different parts of the game or leave a family unsure about what progress looks like. MCA brings the work into one shared system.

Players develop across four connected areas: cricket skills, game understanding, body and mind. The aim is to help each player understand where they are now, what they need to work on next and how their development changes over time.

How the journey begins

Every player begins with the MCA benchmark. A coach observes the player against MCA’s development criteria and records a starting position across the areas relevant to that player.

After the benchmark, MCA places the player in Foundation, Intermediate or Elite. Placement reflects demonstrated capability, training readiness and safety. Age and playing experience provide context, but age alone does not decide a level. Coaches may adjust a placement when the training environment or the player’s development indicates that another level will serve them better.

Who MCA is for

The program is for players aged 12 to 18 who want structured coaching and can participate safely in the relevant training environment. It supports players at different stages, from those building reliable foundations to advanced players ready for more demanding technical and tactical work.

Families must inform MCA of any relevant medical conditions, disability, access needs and other relevant circumstances before enrolment. MCA will discuss reasonable adjustments and program suitability with the player, or their parent or guardian (as applicable).

What the levels mean

  • FoundationFor players building reliable movement patterns, core cricket skills, game awareness and consistent training habits.
  • IntermediateFor players who can apply core skills with increasing consistency and are ready for more complex decisions, pressure and role-specific development.
  • EliteFor advanced players who demonstrate strong technical foundations, tactical understanding and readiness for a higher-intensity training environment.

Foundation, Intermediate and Elite are MCA coaching levels based on assessment. They are not age bands, and they do not indicate representative selection or a state or national pathway.

What happens if a player is injured or misses a session

Player welfare comes first. A player should not train through an injury when a qualified health professional or MCA coach advises against participation. MCA should be informed of any injury as soon as possible so the MCA team can consider an adjusted activity, or the medical withdrawal provisions in the Cancellation and Refund Policy.
